Uncontrolled Water Infiltration in a Log Home is not unusual. It can be caused by a missing flashing, a caulk line that failed, or even sometimes a crack in the logs.
Mold like substance, called "MLS", needs three things to grow:
(1) a surface - this can be anything
(2) food - this can be any biological product like dust, hair, wood, drywall etc. and
(3) most importantly, moisture
Mold is one of the greatest risks to your Log Home and your health. Mold can be deadly. Protect your family from this serious threat. The removal of mold is very costly. Sometimes, if detected too late, a recovery is not possible and your Log Home will be a total loss.
Most Home Insurance policies don't cover mold damage anymore. This is why you should keep a close eye on this problem
We make a mold survey, not a mold inspection, as part of the Log Home Evaluation and we will point out potential threats and water infiltration.
If we find MLS we will strongly recommend a Mold Inspection from a licensed inspector in your State.
Our Mold Survey helps to find and point out weak spots, possibilities of water infiltration and damages before mold becomes a problem. We call it "red flags".
In the pictures you see a serious mold problem on a very exclusive home which was constructed with half round log siding.
The mold was caused by a leaking water pipe, but there are dozens of other places where water infiltrated the house over a long period of time.
During the remediation they removed the hardwood floor, wall- and ceiling boards, drywall, insulation etc.
The insurance company paid for a very expensive remediation. A few weeks later I discovered MLS again.
This is a serious problem what you can't ignore. This is why our Log Home Evaluation is so important.
There are solutions and experts who really want to help you. Our Log Home Evaluation is the first step.
